University of Mumbai (MU)

The University of Mumbai is one of the oldest universities in India situated in the Mumbai city. Reverend Dr. John Wilson, a Scottish missionary and educationist established this institution on 18 July 1857. Earlier its name was University of Bombay which later changed to University of Mumbai. Today, the Mumbai University has 56 Departments, 12 specialized Centres, 781 Affiliated Colleges, 2 main Campuses, 2 sub Campuses, 2 Model Colleges, and the ‘School of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ at Kalyan as the University’s own Engineering College.

The University of Mumbai is affiliating university; its has jurisdiction over 600 km of area from Thane district to Sindhudurg. The university and courses have recognition from University Grants Commission (UGC), National Assessment & Accreditation Council  (NAAC) and Association of India Universities (AIU). The Chancellor of the University is Hon. Governor of the State of Maharashtra. The Vice Chancellor is the highest administrative authority of the University.
